Dr. Reem Mudawi is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Maudsley Health who joined the team from the United Kingdom. Dr Reem initially worked in the Child and Adolescent Service in Maudsley Health Abu Dhabi. In 2020, she joined to the clinical team in Dubai. She currently heads the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service as Clinical Academic Group Lead in Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital.
Dr. Mudawi completed her medical training (MBBS) in Sudan in 2009 and then went on to complete her post-qualification training in the United Kingdom. Dr. Reem completed her core psychiatric training with the St. Mary’s training scheme in London, and received her Membership with the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2016 before embarking on her Specialty Higher training in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. She achieved her Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) and joined the Specialist register of Child Psychiatrists with the General Medical Council, UK (GMC) in October 2019. Prior to joining Maudsley Health, she was working with the National Health Service in the United Kingdom as a Consultant Child and Adolescent psychiatrist.
Dr. Reem has experience working in various outpatient and inpatient mental health settings, including inpatient services for children at Great Ormond Street hospital in London. She has extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of young people with a range of presenting difficulties. These include neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism and ADHD, Anxiety, Depression and Obsessive Compulsive Disorders (OCD), and Eating Disorders. Her expertise also involves paediatric liaison and working with children and young people with medically unexplained symptoms, emergency presentations, Bipolar Disorder and Psychosis.
Dr. Reem has a keen interest in teaching and professional development having delivered numerous seminars and offered mentorship to junior colleagues both in Sudan and graduates form Imperial College London, UK who are keen to embark on Psychiatry training. She is passionate about raising the profile of Child and Adolescent Mental Health in the Gulf region. Dr. Reem is bilingual in both English and Arabic and works within a multidisciplinary team. She draws on her experience in the UK using a biopsychosocial model to provide the highest quality of person-centered care and achieve positive outcomes for families.
